Elis Paprika

Elis Paprika (real name Erika Elizabeth Nogues; May 8, 1980) is an independent singer-songwriter from Guadalajara, Mexico. She has been an active and important part of Mexico’s Rock scene since 2004. She has performed 3 times at Auditorio Nacional in México City, along with Julieta Venegas in 2007, Belanova in 2008, and Juan Gabriel in 2009.〔(Elis Paprika’s performances in Auditorio Nacional Mexico )〕 She has performed in three Vive Latino Festivals in México City, first in 2006, in 2011, and again in 2014.〔(Elis Paprika’s performances in Festival Vive Latino )〕〔(Vive Latino 2011 lineup in Rolling Stone Magazine )〕 She was named “Band of the Month” on Mtv Latin America in August 2006. Musicians in her band have varied with the years, and her current band is called The Black Pilgrims. Elis started her career in Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico.
She has released 6 records to date, ''Give Me Love'' with Suave Records and distributed by Sony Music México in 2006, EP2 in 2007, ''Express'' distributed by EMI Music México in 2009, ''Maldito'' with Dragora Records and distributed by Warner Chapell in 2010,〔(Elis Paprika speeks to Rolling Stone about Maldito )〕 ''Animal'' with Dragora Records,〔(Article on ANIMAL’s video by Rolling Stone )〕〔(Article on the record ANIMAL by Indie Rocks )〕 and Adiós with Drágora Records in 2013. She also released the singles "Love Love Love" in 2011,〔(Rolling Stone gives away Love Love Love by Elis Paprika )〕 and "Now Girls Rule" in 2014 which are not included in any of her previous records. She was also a part of the tribute álbum Amo al Divo de Juarez with her versión of “Hasta Que Te Conocí” by Juan Gabriel,〔(Article on the Juan Gabriel Tribute Album by El Informador )〕 as well as the tribute album ''Tributo A: Ana José Nacho (Mecano)'' with her version of "No Tienes Nada Que Perder" by Mecano.
== Early life ==
Elis was born Erika Elizabeth Nogues on May 8, 1980 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, being the youngest of three children. As a child, she started training as an Olympic gymnast and as a dancer. Her father died when she was 6. She moved to Texas with her family as a teenager in 1992 where she lived for one year. She and her family moved back to Guadalajara, and in 1994 Elis moved to Querétaro Mexico to her aunt’s.
She shortened her name to Elis, inspired by Elis Regina.
